An idiom is a combination of words that has a meaning that is different

. from the meanings of the individual words themselves


It can have a literal meaning in one situation and a different idiomatic

. meaning in another situation


It is a phrase which does not always follow the normal rules of meaning

. and grammar

خلاصة الموضوع: هي مصطلحات تحمل معنى يختلف كليا عن معنى أجزاءه

اذن دعونا نستعرض لكم بعض الأمثلة عن ال idioms:

as easy as pie: very easy

be all ears: be eager to hear what someone has to say

call it a day: stop work for the day

ditch class: skip class/play hookey

Easy does it!: Be very careful! / Don't do anything too fast or too hard

fire someone: dismiss someone from a job because of poor performance.

grab a bite: get something to eat

hit the hay: go to bed; go to sleep.

in stock: in supply and available to buy / sell

jump all over someone: severely criticize / find fault with someone

keep one's fingers crossed: hope for the best

lend someone a hand: help someone

make up one's mind: decide what to do

now and then: occasionally; from time to time

on the dot: exactly at a given time

pop quiz: unannounced short test

quite a few: several; numerous

rain or shine: (describing something scheduled) no matter what the weather is

shoot the breeze: make relaxed, casual conversation

two-faced: deceitful; disolyal

upside down: with the bottom part on top and the top part on bottom

wet behind the ears: inexperienced and naive

yummy: delicious

Zip your lip!: keep something secret
